Install and update jobs

Installs, reinstalls and Steam updates run as jobs: short-lived containers, separate from the game’s. The server shows installing until the job ends; its output appears in the console.

install:
image: registry.audifire.ch/hosting-panel/runtime-images/java:21
entrypoint: bash # default
script: |
cd /mnt/server
curl -fsSL -o server.jar "https://…"
onUpdate: false # true: run it after Steam updates too (it must be safe to run again)
  • The server’s files are at /mnt/server, as in Pterodactyl eggs.
  • The script runs as root, like Pterodactyl’s; the files get the game’s owner afterwards.
  • The job gets the server’s variables, including jobOnly ones.

Templates can download the game with SteamCMD before the install script:

steam:
appId: "223350" # may use {{VARIABLE}}, e.g. to switch to an experimental branch's app
beta: "{{BRANCH}}" # optional
betaPassword: "{{BETA_PASSWORD}}" # optional, usually a secret variable
account: required # none (anonymous, default) · optional · required (the account must own the game)
validateOnInstall: true # check every file on install; updates never validate

With account: optional or required, the server’s creator picks a Steam account. Steam Guard prompts appear in the panel.

A template can download Steam Workshop items (mods) with the game, on every install and update:

steam:
appId: "223350"
account: required
workshop:
appId: "221100" # the game's app id: items belong to the game, not its server
items: "{{WORKSHOP_MODS}}" # ids separated by commas
install:
onUpdate: true # the install script prepares the items after updates too

Items land in steamapps/workshop/content/<app>/<id>; only digits are accepted as ids. Preparing them for the game is up to the install script.

Enter the ids under Workshop mods (the number in the item’s URL), then Update now. DayZ’s install script:

  • makes @<id> folders with lowercase file names (the Linux server needs them), out of hard links, so they take no extra disk space
  • copies the mods’ keys into keys/

The startup loads them in the given order, before the uploaded Other mods.
